We’re delighted to publish the inspirational and illuminating talk given by Matthew Todd, author of ‘Straight Jacket’, delivered at our LGBTQI Substance Use Community Champions Project community discussion event in May 2021.

In this 20 minute talk, Matthew covers an incredible amount of ground on the history of the LGBTQI community and the underlying causes of health inequalities we face, including around substance use, due to experiences of shame, trauma, stress, discrimination and ‘chronic recurrent humiliation’. Absolutely essential viewing for any LGBTQI person, or anyone who wants to understand more about LGBTQI experiences.
